Cooking
Mom’s Orange Chocolate Cookies: new recipe on the site, these cookies are perfect for fall with a touch of clove and their orange flavouring. A nice twist on the traditional chocolate chip cookie!
Other things I cooked:
Sausage, steamed broccoli, and roasted potatoes: I found some roasted potatoes in the freezer so I defrosted and heated up in a pan to get them crispy again. I baked pork and fennel sausages and then had with steamed broccoli and honey mustard. The rest of the week I used the leftover sausage and steamed broccoli for English Muffin pizzas because I am still eating lunches like I’m 10 years old.
Ottolenghi Slow Cooked Chicken with Corn Crust: I made this on Friday night for some friends - it was sooo flavourful and warming, the perfect fall meal. I found rose harissa on well.ca if you can’t find it in a shop. Only flag here is it took me about 4 hours to make, so definitely either make it ahead of time or on a weekend so you aren’t eating at 9pm.
Grossy’s vodka sauce: my fav vodka sauce, I now buy tomato paste in a tube so I can easily make a ¼ recipe for myself!
Shrimp tacos: made my mom’s shrimp tacos, which I talked about in issue 39 of the newsletter, and served with butternut squash mash following my recipe for sweet potato and lime dip but swapping for squash. This is a great unexpected taco topping, I serve it at room temperature.
Squash curry ramen: I followed @localhaven’s post with garlic, ginger, red curry paste, miso, chicken broth, then used brown rice ramen and added roasted squash and some maple syrup. Perfect fall bowl!
Drinking
Brickworks Chronicles of Hops - you can only get it at their storefront or if going in for a glass, but it’s so tasty!

Following
@theoriginaldish, I’ve saved her baked sage chicken meatballs to try out next week and use up the sage I have leftover in the fridge.
Listening
The Subway Song by Delacey. This has been stuck in my head all week.
Using
Reusable containers at the new bulk store in my neighbourhood. A new low waste bulk store just opened down the street from me and I’m so excited to have access to so many ingredients in the quantity I want. I love being able to pop to a bulk store to get the 1 tsp of a spice I don’t use often but I need for a recipe, or to get grains/flour in quantities that aren’t 1kg. This shop is a bring your own container shop so I’ve been saving glass jars when I finish up nut butters etc to have on hand!
Thinking
About how early it gets dark, welp. Time to activate full hygge vibes with candles and twinkle lights. Food photography is really tough in the winter with such limited natural light but adjusting my cooking schedule slightly so I can keep sharing!
