My Go-to Winter Side Salad: This was the first recipe I published on my site (almost 3 years ago!) and it’s the best if you’re looking for a bright, acidic side salad. We had it last night with the tourtiere I had frozen over the holidays. Perfect for a cold winter day!
Other things I cooked:
Julia Turshen’s Swedish Meatballs: these are a go-to weekday meal, I usually make them with buttered egg noodles and steamed broccoli. I also served them with lingonberry jam from IKEA.
JT’s Old School Borscht: I wasn’t able to find this online but it’s page 111 in Simply Julia. This was a delicious, hearty stew with beef and basically every winter vegetable (carrots, cabbage, onion, beets, potato). Served with sour cream and fresh dill.
Eden Eat’s Maple Tahini Swirl Banana Bread: ok I LOVED the flavour of this bread but the texture did not turn out right for me. I baked it for 20 mins longer than the recipe called for but it was very dense with not much crumb (although cooked through!). That said, I would still recommend the recipe because it was soooo yummy. If you make it, let me know if your texture turns out well!
JT’s Stewed Chickpeas with Zuchinni and Peppers: I love this for a quick veggie weekday supper. Super easy and very flavourful. I used just one can of chickpeas since I only had a 19 oz can. For the sauce I did part mayo, part greek yogurt.
Smitten Kitchen’s Extra-Billowy Dutch Baby: this recipe never fails. I folded in lots of black pepper and a bit of grated parm and dried chives before baking. Served it with maple-cured salmon and a dill sauce (sour cream, lemon juice, fresh dill, a few chopped capers, salt n pep), plus my usual breakfast salad (lemon juice, olive oil, touch of maple syrup, salt n pep, arugula).
How Sweet Eat’s Hot Honey Buffalo Chicken Wraps: loved these so much! I did the chicken in the air fryer vs the oven, and I used some leftover coleslaw in the wraps instead of lettuce, plus cheddar cheese. So yummy!

Using
My lemon squeezer. I love this for keeping the seeds out and saving my hands from citrus juice.
Thinking
About the bucatini shortage of 2020. I really need a follow-up article on Big Pasta.
