A sneaky Wednesday delivery this week. I’d like to say it’s because I was busy with something important but truthfully I was binge-watching all 10 episodes of Maid and got behind on my to-do list. But, I didn’t want to miss this week because this marks 1 year since I launched this newsletter! Thank you so much for following along on this journey. Writing to you all each week is truly a joy.
Cooking
Sweet and spicy breakfast sammy: The bagel life continued for me this week and I got really into this combo - honey mustard (mix together equal parts yellow mustard and honey), hot peppers (jarred Italian pepperoncini), cheddar cheese, tomato, spinach, fried egg, mayo. *chef’s kiss* (this photo also reveals I binged a lot of New Girl last week).
Other things I cooked:
London Bruncher Crispy Rice Paper Dumplings: I am used to using rice paper to make “fresh rolls” but loved this idea for dumplings (I did cabbage, carrot, mushroom, red onion, ginger, garlic, fish sauce for the filling) and I added in a slice of tofu to each roll for extra protein. I was out of soy sauce so I did hoisin, water, red wine vinegar (also out of apple and rice vinegar - clearly need to do a grocery order), and chili oil for my dipping sauce. I made 6 one night and reheated half the next day for lunch (reheated in a pan) - they kept their crisp!
I bought Eden Grinshpan’s cookbook Eating Out Loud* this week and did a little Middle Eastern feast with my friend on the weekend. Here are recipes we made from the cookbook that I was able to find links to:
Honey and sage squash (this would be a great Thanksgiving recipe!)
Baba ghanoush - this recipe made a TON. I think next time I would make it with 1-2 eggplants and adjust the ratios.
Vinegar and honey roasted beets (would also be a great Thanksgiving side)
Lamb flatbread - I am obsessed with this recipe. Takes a bit of time with the dough prep but it’s mostly just rising time. I’ve been eating leftovers the last few days and it’s so flavourful.
Last Sunday I prepped a bunch of recipes from Indian-ish *cookbook for the week. Some days I had a combo of them together like pictured below, other days I reheated in a pan and scrambled in two eggs for a hash-like supper.

Drinking
Georgian wines (the country). I did a Grape Witches education hour this weekend to learn about the region's wine, and wow I was blown away by the flavours (and to learn that Georgia is home to 500 grape varietals!). My fav was a full-bodied red called Gvantsa's Wine Aladasturi.

@samanthaseneviratne love her page for baking inspo!
Listening
Ok I’m still obsessed with James Vincent McMorrow’s new album, latest jam I have on repeat is Paradise.
Using
My new Shayna Stevensen mug - I’ve really gotten into ceramics during the pandemic and have been seeking my new “favourite mug”. This one is so striking with its bold blue stripe, the handle is perfect, and it holds a good amount of coffee to start off my day. Follow her IG to find out when she’s doing new shop drops.
Thinking
About Thanksgiving. This will be my first time being home for Thanksgiving since 2013 and I’m really excited to share my favourite meal with my family.

Have a great (rest of your) week!
