Cooking
Glazed Chicken Meatballs: I’ve basically been eating these every week since March. They are so tender, flavourful, and flexible! I usually do curry powder or paprika in them, but you can always play around with the spice mix. I usually eat these with some roasted sweet potato, steamed veggies (like broccoli) or side salad. Recipe now on the blog!

Other things I cooked:
This beet salad by Andy’s East Coast Kitchen - tastes *almost* like tuna you would get in a poke bowl, minus the tuna. I used red beets.
This vodka sauce by Grossy Pelosi - ughh this was so, so good. I made a single serving (2 tbsp of tomato paste, eyeballed the vodka and cream) and it was so comforting.
This Spanish Tortilla recipe from New York Times - I very much bought 10 lbs of potatoes accidentally for Friendsgiving, so I will be eating a lot of potato forward dishes for the next while. I will admit I ate half of this in one sitting; they aren’t wrong that it is even better at room temperature.
These Pumpkin Cinnamon Buns from Minimalist Baker - I had leftover pumpkin puree from Friendsgiving in the fridge and no eggs, so this was the perfect recipe for pumpkin baking. I cheated the pumpkin butter recipe because I just wanted to use up what I had on hand, which did not include apple cider/juice. Instead, I chopped up a fresh apple, so my filling was more of a pumpkin/apple butter. Still delicious. Used regular butter instead of vegan too for the rolls.
Drinking
Love its name, Janky. A little funky, a lot of flavour (citrus and hop-forward), this was a great Friday beer.
This Cherry Cider by Revel Cider
Usually, I stay away from cherry ciders because they are typically sweet but boy this was dry! Refreshing and crisp, very dry finish.
Reading
This article in Vulture on Sohla El-Waylly. I had totally fallen for the Bon Appetit lure last year. I loved their Youtube channel and the personalities on camera. But earlier this year the racial discrimination, pay inequities, and mistreatment of staff became revealed at BA. It made me think a lot more critically about the food media I consume. I loved this article; it’s damning and telling. Sohla is the future of food media I want to support.
Thinking
About the racist violence happening in Nova Scotia towards Mi’kmaq fishers. Take 30 seconds and write to your representative demanding action by the government.
Following
@cellymaeh is an award-winning pastry chef based in St. John’s. She highlighted how to cook Hainanese chicken in her stories this week, which I am going to try out soon.
Listening
To Bahamas’s new album Sad Hunk.
Using
My cake tester*. And not because I’ve been baking lots of cakes! I mostly use my cake tester to check the doneness of vegetables (ex. boiling potatoes, steaming brocolli, roasting squash).
Laughing
At tweets like this one about having to read long personal essays before recipes on food blogs. Sadly, I’ve learned that you need to write 800-1000 words for Google’s algorithm to believe your website is “real”, so I need to go back and write longer explanations before all the recipes in my archives. I promise I’ll always have a “Skip to Recipe” button! And no stories about brisk walks, although I do love the changing of the leaves.

Have a great week,
