Cooking
Grilled Tofu: I love experimenting with tofu. It’s so cheap and a package will feed me for 3-4 days. I LOVED this method from Kay Chun. The warm marinade makes for a delicious sauce, and the tofu gets lots of texture on the BBQ. I grilled it for probably twice as long as the recipe says to get lots of crispy bits.
Other things I cooked:
Samin Nosrat/Carla Lalli Music’s Sweet Potatoes with Tahini Butter: love the sweet creamy texture of the steamed sweet potato with the savoury butter on top.
Grossy Pelosi’s Vodka Sauce: I’ve made this recipe so many times now that I just eye-ball it. I also had some #sadkale in the fridge, so I cooked that down with leek and garlic in my cast iron with a bit of salt and pep to have on the side with the pasta.
Grilled Veggie Panzanella Salad: one of my favourite summer salads - I loosely follow this recipe from Bobby Flay but switch it up based on what veggies I have on hand. Yesterday I did sugar snap peas in tin foil packets and red pepper and red onion direct on the grill, plus sourdough from the market.
Yossy Arefi’s Strawberry Cake: yummm I loved this cake! One bowl and one utensil too! You need a food scale to follow along with the ratios, I’ve linked my fav one below under “using”. The recipe is in her IG story highlights. I’m definitely going to make this again - it would work with any berry or fruit.
Drinking
Halo Brewery Lemon Shapeshifter: this sour IPA with lemon, vanilla, and lactose is sooooo good. Smooth, tart, with a little hops. New fav summer beer.

Following
@foodbymaria - I’ve been trying to eat less meat lately and Maria’s recipes are giving me lots of plant-based inspiration. She recently posted “shawarma style lentils” that I can’t wait to try.
Listening
25 in Barcelona by JP Saxe. I've been listening to a lot of JP lately, great chill summer music.
Using
My food scale. I keep this on my counter; it’s so handy for measuring grains and pasta for individual servings, ensuring equal-sized meatballs and hamburgers, and for baking recipes that provide weights (like the strawberry cake above)!
Thinking
About how lovely farmer’s markets are. Most Sunday’s I head to the one in my neighborhood and it’s awesome to have access to the freshest, in-season produce and lots of local vendors to try out their products like cheeses, prepared foods, and of course, beautiful local flowers!
Laughing
Have a great week!
