Cooking
Nanny’s Banana Bread: Added this to my highlights on IG but I used up my ripe bananas to make this recipe from the archives. To me, this is the perfect banana bread - deep in colour, nice little crust on top. If you don’t have whole wheat flour you can do all all-purpose flour!
Other things I cooked:
Made this mushroom egg noodle pasta and it was sooo comforting. Bettina’s video is also so calming. I didn’t have chives or dill but used parsley instead.
Cream biscuits: this week I had a surplus of dairy that was set to expire so I searched for options for my heavy cream and milk. These biscuits were soooo easy; instead of butter you use heavy cream for the fat in the dough. Loved these with my tea throughout the week.
Chocolate pudding: my second dairy set to expire was 2 cups of milk, so I halved this recipe. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing but it did the trick for using up my milk and giving me a little sweet treat.
Stewed chickpeas with peppers and zucchini: from Simply Julia, I halved the recipe and it still made 3 servings for me! I served it with Ina Garten’s Couscous (minus the currants and pine nuts) - my favourite couscous method.
Glazed chicken meatballs: a classic from the archives - super easy and you can play around with the flavours. I went with my original approach of curry powder for the spice in the meatballs and quince paste in the glaze.
Sweet and spicy cauliflower bites: another classic from the archives - I used water in the batter this time and only had about 1/3 cup of panko and they still turned out great!
Drinking
Oh Julius from Trail Estate Winery. It’s sold out on their site but I found it at Avling Brewery. Funky, fruity but dry on the finish. Delicious summer wine.
Reading
A Year Cooking with My Mother. I loved this article by Eric Kim. Beautiful, touching and I very much teared up reading it. Reminds me of all the text messages sent to my mom asking how she makes things.
Following
@gkstories: I love their account and get inspired by their veggie focus and beautiful photography.

Using
My bamboo dish rack. I was influenced by my friend - it’s the perfect size for a small kitchen and easy to stack dishes on. It also folds up flat for storage!
Thinking
About BBQ season. I have so many backlogged summer recipes that I need to type up, including my “choose your own adventure” guide to macaroni salad. This is me declaring that I will finally publish it this year.
Laughing
Love a grape pun:

Have a great week!
